What the HELL, Amazon?!?
What. The. Hell.

Does this trace back to that nutjob who triggered the Great LJ Strikethrough Clusterf*ck or something? And regardless of whether it does, how did Amazon not learn anything from that?

Are there no retailers out there I can give my business to?

Looks like I'll be shopping elsewhere, at least for the time being.

A later addition to Mark's post:

*******FINAL UPDATE******************
Amazon has released a statement of apology stating that it was an "embarrassing and ham-fisted cataloging error" that pertained to 57,310 listings. They also say that It has been misreported that the issue was limited to Gay & Lesbian themed titles. So it's over. Amazon admits they goofed, and I, for one, shall give them the benefit of the doubt and say I do not believe that there was any malicious intent. Case closed.

So was it a "clerical error" or a PR disaster that blew up in their faces (a la Time-Warner's proposed bandwidth caps)? And under what circumstances do they get the benefit of the doubt? Mark himself seems to think it's over.
