The SighFie shell game strikes again
(If they can't spell their own name right, I'm not going to!)

What is with this network? They announce SGU and then SGA "mysteriously" gets canceled. Now they've announced a New BSG prequel ... and suddenly 'Caprica' is canceled. And they're not just canceling the show; they're yanking "[t]hese final five episodes of the season"** to be rescheduled for ... some other time.

** ("final five", intentional lol?)

Here's a little hint for these clue-impaired lunatics: You can't (successfully) trade on a brand's reputation if you're simultaneously crapping all over the same brand. That should be obvious. FFS, it's not like I'm only watching because I'm a fan of the network. Also: If you make it clear you're just going to yank away anything I'm enjoying, I'm not going to bother showing up in the first place. This should also be obvious.

I'm still enjoying 'Eureka', when it's on; and 'Sanctuary' ... well, Tapping and Heyerdahl are pretty and amazing, and the eyeroll calisthenics are probably good for me, so I'll probably keep that around. Otherwise, though, I'm just as happy not to have anything I care about on this failtastic network.

Gah, wtfrak? I didn't like Caprica as much as BSG, but I was watching it every week! Stoopid skiffy-channel...

+1 on your little hint. (Also, the weird wrestling stuff... all I can say is: giant inducement to stay away from the channel for many hours.)

Yeah, I can't say it's my favorite show ever, but I did find elements compelling and I have been watching it (if in delayed batches).

I just don't understand that channel at all. They run themselves like an object lesson in losing audience.

They run themselves like an object lesson in losing audience. Unfortunately you've hit the nail on the head!

It is mind boggling the idiocy. The only difference was SGA was having good steady ratings of 1.5 and got canceled for a show that can barely hold onto a million. Caprica sunk under even that (not that it was very well promoted)--yet they're going to spin a third series from a sequel that many were not watching?

*shakes head*

Very true.

Maybe their bean-counters got those silly + and - signs confused. I don't even know. But I noticed before, with SGA -> SGU, that they don't understand the concept of branding at all. "We'll call it 'Stargate', to keep the same people (and ward off those who weren't previously interested), but we'll make it completely different!" Which of course drives away the franchise fans, without drawing in new fans. Not how branding works! I mean, look at "Law & Order: LA" — by the time I heard it didn't have the "chung-chung", the producers had bowed to complaints and restored that franchise necessity.

Now, can we find a way to get this hint to the ears of whoever is making these descisions...?

We'd have to find someone strong enough to pull their fingers out of their ears first, I suspect.

(Awwww, grumpy wee!Amelia!!!)

We're still trying to catch up on LAST season's Capricas we DVRed and get to the new season ones we also DVRed. Looks like we'll have less to get through. I was just saying to Al that I still didn't care about anyone terribly much 5 or 6 eps into Caprica. I guess that's good.

Also, I've said it before, I'll say it again: Um, ok, so SciFi wanted to broaden its market and get away from being "just" a science fiction channel, so it changed its name to... phonetically the same thing? Dear Sci Fi fans, we don't want to be associated with you anymore, but we'll still be SyFy. WTF?! It makes my brain hurt.

The logic of branding: They don't haz it.

apropos of nothing
SighFie shell game strikes again, doo dah.

I remember when we were hoping they'd pick up Firefly after FOX canceled it. Now I'm kinda glad they didn't, cuz they would've pushed for changes that turned it into crap, and then canceled it anyway, and then spun off a new series with new characters that would bear striking resemblance to "Walker, Texas Ranger," because, hey, that's set in the West, right?
